Resolved Question: my cat attacked and injured a pidgeon last night - but its still alive and in my car boot?

23 July 2010, 11:02 pm

according to the rspcb site: " Once the bird is caught, examine it quickly and place it in a well ventilated covered box to wait for treatment. Darkness reduces stress, and is likely to be the best first aid you can give the bird. It is also the best treatment for shock. " well, I placed it in my car boot - and its in a clean carrier bag which i hope provided some insulation from the morning chill, and hope that being in the boot it felt more 'secure' from other external threats. The boot also ensured the pidgeon rested in darkness. I woke up this morning opened the boot to check on this pidgeon and sure enough, it vaguely moved its eyelid up n down...i know this sounds funny, but in a way I could 'read' the pidgeons 'mood' or at least get an idea of its welfare and how it was feeling - distressed would be the best word to use. I guess the last thing it ever wants to see again is a cat - especialy my cat, as the shock of seeing the same cat that attacked and injured it would be overwhelming for that poor bad. but yeah, you see - i did my part. my stupid neighbour joked 'prepare the pastry..' , and got into his car with his gf and drove off - i thought that was pretty pathetic tbh with you. should i REMOVE it from the boot and place it in a cardboard box instead ? or simply LEAVE it there ?? its in the front left hand corner of my boot - there is soooo much junk and shyte in the boot of my car, that just opening it and observing its contents makes me feckin mad and angry. I wonder if it needs lots of 'manouvering space' , or if im worrying too much. im glad its alive - but also paranoid about 'what if its in agony and just wants to die ?' where the feck should I take this pidgeon ?? rpsca center ? i heard they tend to put them down - and if thats true , thats cruel. it deserves its second chance dont you think ? advice please. UPDATE*** - The Bird expired today unfortunately....i checked up on it in the early hours of the morning around 5ish, but it 'passed away' around 11am ish. :-|... Read More »
